A very brief history of the Church
All Saints Church was built to provide for the spiritual and social needs of the people of Ripley during the Industrial Revolution, and was dedicated in July 1821.Ā At the time it was a āChapel of Easeā in the parish of Pentrich, with St Matthewās Pentrich as the main parish church.Ā Some families in Ripley still maintain a connection with St Matthews as their church.Ā Ripley was created a separate parish in 1855, and the tower with clock and 5 bells was built in 1861.
The church tower now houses a full complement of eight bells, work on which was completed in 1902 to commemorate the Coronation of King Edward the VII.Ā The stunning stained glass window in the Chancel, depicting Christs Crucifixion, was designed by John Hayward and replaced the storm damaged window in 1969.
The completion and dedication of an extension in 1999 included an internal re-ordering of the church to provide a light, modern, flexible space to facilitate the church’s ministry in serving the community of Ripley.Ā The work included a modern baptistry, removal of pews, carpeting throughout, a kitchen, toilets and office.Ā The gardens, re-ordered in partnership with community groups, provide a quiet oasis in the town.
